Fourth Grade Teacher
Before teaching 4th grade at St. Clare, Mr. Payne started his career working in schools when he was himself a high school student. Mr. Payne returned to St. James, the elementary school that he had attended, to be a leader in the after-school program. Then, he attended Humboldt State University, where he was awarded a Writing Award form the English Department and graduated with a double major in Studio Art and Education. While attending college, he continued working with students in a high school enrichment program.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree, Mr. Payne moved to the Bay Area. Here, he enrolled in Santa Clara University’s Teaching Credential and Masters program and began a 3-year internship at Sacred Heart Nativity Middle School teaching Language Arts, P.E., and Art History. When his internship ended, Mr. Payne found an opening for 4th grade teacher at St. Clare School and gratefully accepted. Mr. Payne continues to explore his creativity through art; he is an avid reader and an occasional writer. He finds inspiration from many sources, such as hiking in nature, playing with his cat, and quiet moments at home, but never so often as from his own students.
